Das goldene Ding
Description du film :
DVD-Kopie The award-winning director of this film, Edgar Reitz, was a leader in the movement of young German filmmakers to revitalize the German film industry, an industry relying on stale conventions and »safe« movies. Das Goldene Ding is his first venture into full-length storytelling. It retells the legend of the Golden Fleece in a new way. First, the story is told from the perspective of the Argo’s ship’s carpenter. Secondly, all the Argonauts, Jason, Herakles, Orpheus, etc., are teenagers, battling against ogre-ish adults. Finally, the ardent young Argonauts solve their apparently supernatural challenges using a little science and common sense. Made for German TV, this film was very well-received when it was released.

As »Bugsy Malone« is to »The Godfather«, so »Das Goldene Ding« is to »Fellinis Satyricon« – this film is a slightly weird retelling of the legend of Jason and the Argonauts, with all the major roles played by children, most of whom are kings. Jason’s father imparted some important wisdom to him shortly before he was murdered, leading the lad to decide to continue with plans for an expedition to obtain a gold something – no one knows exactly what – and with the wealth to consolidate his rule and help the shaky realms of his buddies, also local kings. The boys head off; secure in their seamanship and with a wealth of scientific and technological skills which are in sharp contrast to the various rather mystical (and dangerous) adults they meet at several stops along the way.
Eventually, Jason succeeds in defeating a (rather small) mechanical army in a duel, and the local princess Medea escapes with him, and rather more to the point, with the fleece ... which turns out to bear a map of hidden treasure troves scattered all over Europe and North Africa.
